Marketing, business, and politics are all elements of the current food system. At OpenSecrets.org, the Center for Responsive Politics indicates that $30 million dollars was spent on lobbying for food policies with the most money from Coca-Cola Co, PepsiCo Inc, and McDonald’s Corp. It’s indicated that the American Beverage Association went from $700,000 in 2008 to almost $19 million in 2009, the year of the “soda tax” discussions. Just the mention of a congressional action unleashed a surge of money. The government allows and is influenced by these practices. Soda is boring. Get over it.
