It’s now 1 cent more per ounce of soda in Berkeley, California. At first I wondered how could such liberal individuals choose additional governmental interventions in their life. Then I thought perhaps the population might just know that toxic soda is ungreen. It’s smog. It’s pollution. It’s of no good value. It’s hurting the environment. Then I could see how this vote would make perfect sense.
Now that this government has increased tax on the trouble making calories and chemicals in soda, here’s hoping they reduce the tax on fruits and vegetables by the same amount (IF NOT MORE).
Nancy Gagliardi sums the change up well: http://www.forbes.com/sites/nancygagliardi/2014/11/05/berkeley-makes-history-on-the-soda-tax/ Please beverage industry, bring the attention to the sparkling naturally flavored waters that are so fun.
